Arriving in the city, after the "trauma of Agvinon", we parked the car outside the wall. As it was Sunday there was no need to pay the parking meter.

At the information center we took a map. In old downtown you do everything on foot. We decided to start by Van Gogh Foundation, a cultural center which was _ the Hôtel de Dieu, the psychiatric hospital where Van Gogh was hospitalized after cutting his ear. Has few screens of Van Gogh, I thought that would have more information, let me down a bit.

Are located near the ruins of the Thermes de Constantin.
We walk around the Place du Forum, famous for having a coffee shop that Van Gogh painted with several other coffee shops and restaurants. We stopped for a meal

After we headed out to Théâtre Antique.

After that we went to the Amphitheatre, there was a typical show with horses and people dressed old-fashioned. We watched until the end.

Then we took a walk on the boardwalk on the shore of the Rhône river. Then we direct to the car and returned to Aix by secondary roads, we passed through small and beautiful villages (Les Baux-de-Provence and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence)

Ao chegarmos na cidade, depois do “trauma de Agvinon” estacionamos o carro do lado de fora da muralha. Como erra domingo não era necessário pagar parquímetro.

No centro de informações pegamos um mapa. No centro antigo você faz tudo a pé. Optamos por iniciar pela Fundação Van Gogh, um centro cultural onde foi o Hôtel de Dieu, o hospital psiquiátrico onde Van Gogh foi internado após cortar a orelha. Tem poucas telas do pintor, achei que teria mais coisas, informações, me decepcionou um pouco.

Próximo se localiza as ruínas das Thermes de Constantin.
Passeamos pela Place Du Forum, famosa por ter um café que Van Gogh pintou, com outros vários cafés e restaurantes. Paramos para uma refeição.

Após nos dirigimos ao Théâtre Antique

e depois ao Amphithéâtre, estava tendo um show típico com cavalos e pessoas vestidas a moda antiga. Assistimos até o fim.

Depois fizemos uma caminhada no calçadão na margem do rio Rhône. Dali nos direcionamos para o carro e retornamos para Aix pelas estradas secundarias e passamos por pequenos e belos vilarejos (Les Baux-de-Provence e Saint-Rémy-de-Provence)

Avignon - South of France

Avignon

We went to Avignon by the quick road to arrive soon. In Avignon we enter by car in the city intra-muros. It was an adventure! Because some streets are very narrow and winding, it seemed we were in a maze. Of course we didn't find a parking spot! We chose to leave and park outside. Sign out ?? How ?? After a few minutes in this stress, we parked the car in a large parking lot that was free in front of a rampart.

Now walk within the walled city, we went to the Tourism Office, to get a map and information. From this point we went to the Palais des Papes, the largest Gothic building in Europe, passed through the central street with its numerous shops. It was very busy due to the summer festival.

At the Palais des Papes we acquired the ticket that includes the audioguide. The site is large with many rooms and lots of history.

It is interesting to climb to the top and watch the view of the city.

Before that, we went to Rocher des Doms, a small beautiful park on top of a cliff with a beautiful view of the river Rhône. Stands beside the Pallas of the Papes.

We stopped to eat and relax a bit. Then we walk through many streets of the city and returned a little to visit the old City Hall, the Opera.

The road to the bridge is a perdition , many shops with the charm of Provence. The scents of Provence .....

Bridge Saint-Benezet

The Saint-Benezet Bridge is a medieval building, which is a World Heritage Site, was built between 1171 and 1185 and part of it was destroyed in 1226 after a siege by Louis VIII. Today, the bridge has only 4 of the original 22 arches and many stories to tell. Worth entering the bridge (ticket also includes audio guide) and hear its story walking through it. More photos ....

There are many points with drinking water so be sure to use them, drink water.

Fomos de Aix para Avignon pela estrada rápida para chegarmos logo. Em Avignon entramos de carro na cidade intra-muros. Foi uma aventura! Pois algumas ruas são estreitíssimas e tortuosas, você acha que o carro não vai passar......e ficamos rodando, parecia que estávamos em um labirinto. Lógico que não achamos uma vaga! Optamos por sair e estacionar do lado de fora. Sair?! Como?? Depois de alguns minutos nesse estresse, conseguimos... e estacionamos o carro num grande estacionamento que estava gratuito, em frente a muralha.

Agora a pé, dentro da cidade murada, nos dirigimos para o Office de tourisme, para pegar mapa e informações. Deste ponto seguimos para o Palais des Papes, o maior edifício gótico da Europa, passamos pela rua central, com várias lojas. Estava muito movimentada devido ao festival de verão.

No Palais des  Papes adquirimos o ingresso que inclui o audioguia. O local é grande com várias salas e muita história.

Vale subir até o alto e observar a vista da cidade.

Daí nos direcionamos para o Rocher des Doms, um pequeno parque lindo no alto de um rochedo com uma vista linda pra o rio Rhône. Fica ao lado do Palias de Papes.

Paramos para comer e relaxar um pouco. Depois passeamos por várias ruas da cidade, retornamos um pouco e conhecemos a antiga prefeitura, a Opera.

Daí nos direcionamos de volta em direção a Pont Saint-Benezet.

O caminho para a ponte é uma perdição, muito comércio com o charme de Provence. Os aromas de Provence.....

Pont Saint-Benezet

A Pont Saint-Benezet é uma construção medieval, que é Patrimônio da Humanidade, foi construída entre 1171 e 1185 e parte dela foi destruída em 1226, após o cerco da cidade por Luís VIII. Hoje, a ponte possui apenas 4 dos 22 arcos originais e muita história para contar. Vale a pena entrar na ponte (o ingresso também inclui o áudio guia) e ouvir sua história passeando por ela. E mais fotos....

Há vários pontos com água potável então não deixe de utiliza-los, beba água.

Cassis - South of France

Cassis

We landed in Provence !! What a beautiful sunny day! We arrived at the airport, we took the rental car and drove to Cassis. A small resort on the Mediterranean Sea, very charming, reminded me Buzios (RJ), but the location differential are its white cliffs and ferrous called Calanques.

This is one of the beautiful local attractions. Options to do boat rides, kayaks and on foot to know them . Depends on your physical disposition and time. Cassis is located in a very rugged terrain (many hills) and so has narrow streets with an up and down endless. After many laps looking for parking, we opted to leave the car at the top of the site and walk down.

We started the tour by Calanques, it was very hot and we would just spend the day we chose the boat ride. Due to weather conditions the ride was only available to 3 Calanques (Port Miou, Port Pin and En Vau). The ride took 45 minutes and cost € 18 per person (in July 2014). It is beautiful, you see the village from the sea, the medieval castle on top, and the famous calaques, the last is breathtaking.

After the tour we enjoy a little small beach, with its transparent ice-cold water, and get some rest.

We walked around the small village, very friendly and pleasant. At the end of the day there was a little fair with local products on the square. I could not resist and went shopping for soaps and scarves !!

What a beautiful day! A quiet place with beach and sun, but without the "trappings" of Saint Tropez and others. I hope to return one day.

Chegamos a Provence!! Que belo dia de sol ! Chegamos ao aeroporto, pegamos o carro na locadora e nos dirigimos para Cassis. Um pequeno balneário no mar Mediterrâneo, muito charmoso, me lembrou Búzios (RJ), porém o diferencial local são suas escarpas brancas e ferrosas chamadas de calanques.

Essa é uma das belas atrações do local. Com opções de passeios de barcos, caiaques e a pé para conhece-las. Depende de sua disposição física e tempo.
Cassis é localizada em um terreno muito acidentado (muitos morros) e por isso possui ruas estreitas, com um sobe e desce interminável. Após muitas voltas a procura de estacionamento, optamos por deixar o carro no topo do local e descer a pé.

Começamos o tour pelo passeio de calanques, como estava bem quente e só iríamos passar o dia optamos pelo passeio de barco. Devido as condições climáticas só estava disponível o passeio a 3 calanques (Port Miou, Port Pin e En Vau). O passeio levou 45 minutos e custou 18€ por pessoa (em julho de 2014) . È bonito, você vê o vilarejo do mar, o castelo medieval no alto, e as famosas calaques, a ultima é deslumbrante.

Após o passeio fomos curtir um pouco a pequena praia local, com sua água transparente geladíssima, e descansar um pouco.

Depois demos umas voltas no pequeno vilarejo, muito simpático e agradável. No fim do dia havia uma feirinha com produtos locais na praça. Não resisti e fui as compras de sabonetes e echarpes !!

Delicia de dia ! um lugar tranquilo, bonito, com praia, sol e no Mediterrâneo, porém sem aquela "pompa" de Saint Tropez e outros. Espero voltar um dia.
