Visit Lisbon in 2 days and Sintra in 1 day.

Lisbon in 2 days and Sintra in 1 day.

Rio de Janeiro flights to Lisbon was quiet. In Lisbon airport the immigration was a little slow even if it was empty. After we left the landing, we trade the Lisboa Card and caught a city map. The Aerobus to downtown had the price reduced in two euros by the Lisboa Card. The bus station of the Aerobus is in front of the the exit, next to the tourist information.
Aerobus
There are two buses to leave the airport, the first one, on the right of the exit, goes to downtown and the second one goes to another region, the payment is done inside the bus. The bus driver asks you where you are going to stop, pay attention, he stopped a bus stop ahead. In case of doubt, tell the hotel where you will be staying, the driver will leave you as close as possible.
At the end I really thought that you should spend more time visiting Lisbon. When we arrived in Lisbon arround 18pm, we didn't have too much time, that's why we took only a few photos and walked by Eduardo VII Park.

First Day

We woke up early and then we had a delicious breakfast, after we walked by Eduardo VII Park just to see it in the daylight.

Eduardo VII Park

Marquês de Pombal Square
After, we took the metro (Lisbon Card) to the Comercial Square, also called Terreiro do Paço. There is the House of Councilors, some beautiful monuments and the Arch of Rua Augusta.

D. José I statue

Statue of D. Jose I, is in the center of the square. We took beautiful photos and after, we went by bus (nº728) to the beautiful Mosteiro dos Jerónimos.
Augusta's street Arch
From this point (Arch of the Augusta street) you have two options: first, the tram that is located slightly to the left of the big door. You will see the tram stop as you pass through the D. José I statue.
Tram
Second option: In front of the Arc, proceed to the left, bordering the wall of the gate, reach a point where the number 728 bus passes, which has a stop in front of the monastery. Do not enter your ticket validation. Important reminder: There is no ticket sale without the use of credit cards, you must use credit card for all types of urban transportation, or purchase a public transport card but do not get on a bus without a card. Internally there is a top of the bus a sign indicating the next stopping point.

Bus Stop (728)
Jerônimos Monastery
Jerónimos Monastery, a stunning place. The old refectory with its blue and yellow Portuguese tiles, in Manoelino style. Still in the Monastery there is Fernando Pessoa's Tomb.

Fernando Pessoa's Tomb
If you have the Lisboa Card you do not have to enter the large queue formed to buy tickets for the Jerónimos Monastery. Go straight to the Museum, present the card and change your ticket. The queue is to buy the entrance to the monastery.

Annex to the Monastery there is the Church of the Jeronimos. To enter the Church, leave the Monastery and next to it is the entrance to the Church.
Jerônimos Church
The moment we entered there was a mass. The acoustics of the church is very good. The church is very beautiful. In it there is the tomb of Camões on one side and that of Vasco da Gama on the other side. Also worth the visit.

Jerônimos Church
Also in another annex to the Monastery there is a museum with Egyptian antiquities. It is small, if in a hurry can be suppressed.
In front of the Jerónimos Monastery there is a beautiful park (Plaza do Imperio) with a large fountain in the middle.
Empire Square

Next to the square there is the Cultural Center of Belém. We cross the park, on the other side of the street we know and photograph the Monument of Discovery.

Discovery Monument
From the top of the monument (paid to climb up) there are fantastic views of the Christ, the tower of Bethlehem, the sea and the river. On the ground there is a Rose of the Winds drawn.

Another very interesting thing we saw at the top of the Discovery Monument was the amphibious bus, if you dare to get on a bus on a big river ...
Amphibious Bus

After all this, small stop for lunch. There are some restaurants on this wide sidewalk.
After the small break, we headed towards Torre de Belém. A beautiful and interesting fort with more beautiful views.

Belém Tower
Returning towards the Monastery of Jerome. On this walk, see how interesting:

Too bad we did not have time to get in to see!
After a 15 minute walk, we pass by the place that sell the famous pasteis de Belém. Short stop for dessert. Really eating fresh is a treat! We passed the Presidential Palace and headed to the Car Museum (Lisbon Card). Worth the visit !!

Coches Museum

Due to the summer time, we decided to go to the Oceanarium. We took bus 728 in the square in front of the museum.

After crossing the city we arrived at the Oceanarium.
Lisbon Oceanarium

After several aquariums, many penguins and otters, we walked to the subway station. We descend at the restoration station, on Avenida Liberdade and end the night at the Hard Rock Cafe in Lisbon.

We walked on the av. Freedom to the hotel. A beautiful walk, even at night.

Second Day

After a nice coffee we went by metro to Restauradores Square, those who do not know the street are worth walking.
Glória Tram
Next to the station we take the funicular from the Glória hill (Lisbon Card) to the viewpoint of the upper district, with its views.

São Pedro de Alcântara Garden
We took a tour of the old narrow streets of Bairro Alto and walked down Rua São Pedro de Alcântara and Misericórdia street to Luis de Camoes square, where the Brazilian embassy is located. Here is the neighborhood of Chiado, with beautiful buildings and churches. We continue towards Baixo Chiado. We pass by the monument to Fernando Pessoa, located in the subway station Baixo Chiado. A place with several shops and restaurants, some frequented by old artists, very busy by day and night. We continue towards Carmo and visit the ruins of Carmo.

Carmo's Church
Gothic church destroyed in the earthquake of 1755. Well worth the visit !! We take the Santa Justa elevator (Lisbon Card) to get off. Most beautiful views from the gazebo!

Santa Justa Elevator.

After lunch at a nice restaurant we strolled down Augusta Street to the Augusta archway and back down Augusta to Rossio Square and Filgueiras Square. We took the tram 28 to the castle of São Jorge.

São Jorge Castle.
Interesting ruins with more beautiful views of the city. We return on bus 737 to Rossio. We went to dinner at Baixo Chiado and afterwards to rest.

One day in Sintra - we took the train from 08: 38h. The station is between Restauradores and Rossio squares, next to the National Theater. Be aware the station is very beautiful and does not look like a station. We made two laps and after asking that we located the same. The trip to Sintra lasts about 40 min.
Arriving in Sintra we bought a ticket for the hop on hop off, there are several walking routes, you must choose which one fits your available time and which places you want to visit, so it is interesting to check the places before Do not waste time and money!

This was what we had chosen.

We started at Moorish Castle because this was the one that opened earlier for visitation. We walked through the walls and ruins. You will have spectacular views as the castle is in a very elevated area !!

Mouros Castle's Wall

Afterwards we head towards the Pena Palace, next destination on the bus route. A beautiful spot, formerly used as a summer resting place. Very colorful and beautiful.

Pena Palace Entrance
And finally the National Palace of Sintra that is in the village, this point is the round trip intercession. After getting to know the Palacio we stroll along the narrow historical slopes of Sintra. We made a small snack, with local jokes and sweets, some shopping, because woman does not resist the local beauties and we return to the train station.

Village
Next destination: getting to know the Queluz Palace, usually off the route of most tourists, but worth knowing. He had read that this palace is considered the Versailles of Portugal. It really is very beautiful, big, has a room that resembles the mirrored room of Versailles, beautiful gardens, but it is not very conserved, perhaps because of the high cost that should be for conservation in relation to the number of visitors. We return to the train station in the direction of Lisbon. We returned to the hotel to pack our bags because the next day our direction was Barcelona.
Queluz Palace
Trip from Lisbon to Barcelona, we took a taxi from the hotel to the airport, as it's close it got cheap, ten euros, well worth it. We checked in and went through the passport check, we were faced with tax free. Very easy: on the right you show the purchases and receive the stamp of ok (customs), if requested have to show the goods, especially if it is electronics. According to the Tax free logo (global Blue / Global Refund) you receive the refund on the left side or upstairs in an exchange house with the Tax Free symbol.

You can choose the order of your tours. We report what we did and we think it was the best for our needs. Below we list some sites that we use to search the points that we wanted to know that can facilitate your visit.

Our experience with the Lisbon Card, as our first visit to Lisbon, was very positive, worth every penny paid.
