Rio de Janeiro is one of the most famous brazilian cities, and it attracts many tourists from all arround the globe. Our visitors are frequently victims of hustlers and robbers, and unfortunately some of those will become rich during the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics. If you are willing to visit Brasil and don't feel like acting a fool, here are some usefull tips for you:



1 - Nothing is for free and no one you just met is a friend! You will avoid most of the hustle just by keeping this principle in mind, so that's the rule number one. If someone you don't know offers you something, or promisses some extremely cheap deal, it's better to turn it down instead of being fooled. (Don't mix up turning some crazy offer down with being rude.)


2 - Avoid calling attention. It is really easy for a hustler to identify the foreign visitors (or as they call, "gringos") and possible targets, but some of those make their jobs even easier. Speaking loudly in a different language, wearing lots of jewlery, hanging huge cameras on the neck and stuff like that...
No one is telling you to change the wardrobe or spend the whole vacation whithout saying a single word, but to be aware that you call atention, and acting like that will make you look like an easy and worthy target.

3 - TAXIS! Most of the taxi drivers are honest workers, but many hustles take place in taxis. Always check your change, because dropping a passenger is one of the most favorable situations for passing fake money forward. Before taking a taxi, check on the internet the distance you are about to travel, taxi drivers sometimes make your way a little bit longer, if you know what i mean...
Always take the company taxis, some kidnappers work using fake taxis.

4 - Avoid Clandestine Vans. Most of the clandestine vans are just an ilegal and cheaper way to get where you want. But sometimes they are used by kidnappers as well, so watch out, it doesn't worth to take that risk!

5 - Be carefull with GPS systems. Many tourists think they can just rent a car and trust entirely on the navigation system. The problem is that it is not able to recognize the dangerous parts of the city and it will most likely send you to one of them. In Rio, the favelas are mixed up with the other neighborhoods, and some of them are ruled by drugdealers. Now here is a crazy emergency tip that can save your life in case you get your car stuck in a favela or something: Ask them to buy drugs. I know it sounds crazy, but it is way better to be seen as a customer instead of a threat, keep that in mind.


6- Some common sense won't hurt. Rio is not one of the most calm cities in the World, but it is also victim of the exagerated media. Avoiding walking alone in the dawn, in dangerous areas will keep you away from most of the trouble.

7 - This tip will also sound pretty crazy, but finish reading it and you will understand what it means. Most places will advise you to avoid walking on the streets with cash. That is not a good idea, because if you are approached in the street by an armed robber, he will go away as soon as you handle him a satisfactory amount of cash, instead of going to a bank with you and making you sack all your money from the ATM machine. Im talking about (R$200 to R$400), don't walk arround with all your money as well. It is never a good idea to disagree with some crazy robber, so just handle him what he wants.

8- Always ask for the prices BEFORE you buy something, specially foods and beverages. Once you've already ate or drunk, the seller can charge you any value they want, and that happens a lot, specially on the famous beaches.

9 - Keep your most valuable items always on the front pockets. This tip may seem stupid, but I would hate to say I told you so...

10 - Last but not least the classic Christ the Redeemer van hustle. As soon as you get to Cosme Velho (The Street were is located the train station that takes you all the way up untill the Christ), some men you approach you, telling that there are no trains available. Some times if you arrive there late this will be true, and you will have to take the vans (which are always more expensive, remember rule number one), but it always worths to ask directely on the station itself.

For the supper smart people this post may seem a little unnecessary or exagerated, but remember, it was written by someone who lives and sees this kind of stuff happen every day, so don't underestimate it. Here are some tips for buying passages, search schedules, companies and what to do to properly board the train.

1 - The first tip is to always research prices and passages on the group's website, Trenitalia or Italo Treno, because if we look directly on Google the main option takes an extra fee for each passage purchased.
2 - When you're searching for tickets is better to know the name of the city in Italian, here are some examples in English and Italian respectively;

• Rome - Rome
• Florence - Firenze
• Assisi - Assisi
• Pisa - Pisa
• Venice - Venezia
• Naples - Napoli

3 - The passages on both sites can be purchased with up to 4 months of antecedence, which increases the possibility of buying first class passages equivalent to the price of a lower class, check below a simulation performed using Trenitalia site's:

4 - If one of your choices is to visit the southern Italy, near the Vesuvius volcano, you will have to opt for E.A.V. company, which does not sell passages but there is the possibility of consulting the train schedules, trains are not as new and often a little late, but it is the only company that circulates around Vesuvius region. Check bags with no trouble!

When you plan a trip, any mistake  may become future trouble. One of the most common mistakes is related to the luggage in general. A bag that doesn't fit the specifications is subjected to extra dispatch taxes and in the case of hand bagagge, seizure of forbiden itens. On this post you will find some usefull tips to avoid that kind of trouble.

The bagagge wheight limit depends on the aerial company, and the kind of ticket aquired. Most companies limit the wheight in two volumes with 50 pounds each for the check in and two hand bagagges, that may be a little bag and a backpack for example. Avoid packing liquid on the hand baggage, considering you can only take an amount of liquid inferior to 100 mili liters, and the recipient of this liquid must be in a sealed transparent bag.

Standard Bag Size:

Before selecting a flight, read carefully the informations related to the bagagge limit. Depending on the amount of lugagge, it worths choosing a more expensive flight that allows you to dispatch a bigger quantity of bags, compensating the overwheight fine that would be charged in another flight whit smaller bagagge limit.

Be carefull. Sometimes the check in charges are not included on the price of the flight, and has to be payed separately.

When you are attending a flight with multiple stops, bring the documentation with you, to avoid being charged twice by the check in attendants.That way is much easier to prove them you are only taking a conexion flight.
Another tip is to put some sticker or ribbon on your bags, so you can easely identificate them by far on the bagagge claim, avoiding it to be switched by mistake or anything like that.

Despache suas malas sem transtornos!

Quando se planeja uma viagem qualquer descuido pode se tornar motivo de transtornos futuros. Um dos descuidos mais frequentes é com a bagagem. Uma bagagem que não atende as especificações está sujeita a taxas extras de despacho e, no caso de bagagens de mão, apreensão de itens proibidos a bordo. Seguem algumas dicas e especificações que podem ser muito úteis na hora de fazer as malas.

O limite de bagagens por pessoa depende da companhia aérea e da passagem adquirida, a maioria das operadoras limita o peso em dois volumes de 23 kg cada para despachar e duas bagagens de mão, que podem ser uma pequena mala de mão e uma mochila com pertences pessoais. Na bagagem de mão, evite levar liquido de qualquer espécie. São permitidos 100 ml de liquido no total, por exemplo um pequeno frasco de perfume, sendo que este deve estar dentro de um saco transparente inferior a 20cm x 20cm e com vedante. Voos internos permitem o despache de apenas uma mala, também de 23kg.

Tamanho da Bagagem padrão

Antes de selecionar um voo, tome cuidado e leia atentamente todas as informações pertinentes a bagagem. Dependendo da quantidade de bagagem, vale mais a pena escolher um voo um pouco mais caro que permita despachar uma maior quantidade de malas, compensando a multa de sobrepeso que seria pago em outro voo hipoteticamente mais barato, porém com maiores restrições de despache.

Em alguns casos a primeira informação que aparece é o limite de 23kg por bagagem, mas lendo com mais atenção, você vera que o limite para o Brasil ou America do Sul chega a duas bagagem de 32kg cada. Vale ressaltar que isso depende da companhia aérea e da passagem adquirida.

Cuidado: quando for pesquisar uma passagem e esta for muito barata pode não estar incluído o despacho de bagagem. Nesses casos o despacho deve ser pago a parte, então verifique o valor da passagem cheia e a com desconto para concluir se vale a pena!

Outro detalhe que pode trazer muitas dores de cabeça ao viajante e que vale a pena ser mencionado:
Durante um trajeto que envolva escalas, fique atento para que a taxa de despache (caso exista) não seja cobrada duas vezes. Nesse caso, é importante ter em mãos os documentos que comprovem que você está fazendo apenas uma conexão e que esse valor já foi pago ao pegar o primeiro voo.
Outra dica é colocar além da identificação alguma fita ou adesivo, de preferência chamativos, para que você possa identificar de longe qual é a sua mala na esteira, evitando assim que alguém se confunda e a leve por engano.

Rio de Janeiro sigue hermoso, y cada vez mas caro. Eso incluye el precio de los taxis, y en esta publicación, encontrarás un consejo ya conoscido por los cariocas, pero muchas veces ignorado por visitantes desprevenidos: el "Frescão".

Al llegar en la ciudad maravillosa, el primer problema que el turista encuentra es deslocarse al sitio en donde está su local de hospedage, y generalmente los servicios de taxis de los terminales les cobra mucha plata para solucionar esta questión. Dependiendo de la ubicación  del destino y de la cantidad de equipage, vale la pena pagar por estes servicios, pero en la mayoria de las situaciones existen alternativas mucho más economicas.
Una de estas alternativas és el servicio de bus prestado por la empresa "Real Auto ônibus". Sus buses popularmente conoscidos como "Frescões" ,por sus sistemas de aire acondicionado, realizan trayectos con origen en los terminales de buses ó aeropuertos con destino a lugares en donde los turistas costumbran hospedarse con más frequencia.

The city of Rio remains beautifull, and also more expensive. That includes the prices of cabs, and in this post you will find a tip already known by the cariocas, but many times ignored by unwarned visitors: the "Frescão".
Rio has two main airports, "Antônio Carlos Jobin", also known as "Galeão", and the second one named " Santos Dumont". The first one is the biggest, and also furthest from the center, while the last one stays much closer from the center and the South Side (Zona Sul) of Rio.

After the arrival, the first problem faced by the tourist is getting to the host place, and usually the private transport services charge a large amount of cash. Frescão: Translado econômico e confortável na chegada ao Rio

O Rio de Janeiro continua lindo e cada vez mais caro. Isso inclui o preço dos táxis, e nesse post, daremos uma dica já conhecida pelos cariocas, mas muitas vezes ignorada por visitantes desavisados: o "Frescão".

Aqui vão algumas dicas de como comprar passagens, pesquisar por horários, companias e o que fazer para poder pegar corretamente seu trem.
